Frank L. Alati, 80, who once owned grocery stores in Niagara Falls and Lewiston, died Tuesday (April 24, 2001) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a short illness.
Alati was born in Mingo, Ohio, and moved here in the mid-1930s.
He was a meat cutter for more than half a century. He owned the former Sunshine Market at Pierce Avenue and 15th Street, and after that store closed, he started Frank's Red and White in Lewiston.
Later, Alati worked 10 years cutting meat for Federal Meat Market in Niagara Falls. He retired in the 1980s.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Cecelia A. Giambattista; his daughter, Elaine Palumbo of Niagara Falls; a son, James of the Town of Niagara; a brother, Anthony of Lewiston; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pine Avenue and 14th Street, following prayers at 8:45 in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St.
Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
