A PIONEER MOTHER HAS PASSED TO HER REWARD
On Friday morning, March 18th, 1925, Mrs. Emma Abernethy passed to her reward at the home of Mrs. Sarah Simpson in this city following a protracted period of failing health, during all of which time her comfort and welfare was looked after by her son Earl of this city.
Emma Johnson was born in Indiana on February 13, 1841. While still a child she removed with her
parents to Allamakee county, Iowa, and settled on a farm near Bethel church. Shortly after the Civil war she was joined in marriage to Alexander Abernethy. Of this union four children were born—Linn, who has been missing for many years; Fred, who resides in Tampa, Florida; Lula, who passed away in 1901; and Earl of Postville. Mrs. Abernethy is also survived by one brother, Thomas Johnson of Medora, N. D.
In 1910 she removed to St. Paul, Minn., returning to Postville ten years later where she made her home with Mrs. Sarah Simpson. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
The funeral was held from the home of Mrs. Sarah Simpson last Sunday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. R. F. Galloway of the Community Presbyterian church. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
