From the time of marriage until 1880 or the marriage of their youngest daughter, in the Springfield district, their family consisted of:
District 87, Sheet 387A

Joseph Sherwood, age 55.
Caroline Sherwood, age 39.

---William D. Sherwood, born 1858, Monroe County, Virginia. He would marry Mary F. Hedrick, and reside in Summers County.

The marriages of Sarah Ann Sherwood and Isabella Sherwood, were attended by John Henry Wykle, yougest brother of Caroline Wikle Sherwood.

Caroline Sherwood, Widowed, 69, is residing in household of William D. Sherwood and Mary (Martha) E. Sherwood, in the Wolf Creek area of Monroe County, in the 1910 U.S Federal Census. District 105, Sheet 24B, NARA.

Caroline Sherwood, Widowed, 79, is residing in the household of William D. Sherwood, and Martha E. Sherwood, in the Wolf Creek area of Monroe County, in the 1920 census.

*Note 1: John Henry Wykle, passed away in 1945, sometime between 1938 and 1945, he had communicated with Walton Walter Weikle aspects of family history and genealogy. Walton Walter Weikle had married one of his granddaughters, Arzula Darless Ward, in 1940. Caroline and Josey Sherwood had lived in the Fort Springs area. At the time of her death, she was buried at Riverview in an unmarked grave and the year is unknown. I being the youngest son of Walton and Arzula Weikle, upon researching this lineage forgotten memories had resurfaced, about having travelled to Fort Springs in the 1970's and hearing Walton Weikle reiterate information that he had heard from John Henry Wykle decades earlier.

*Note 2: There is a known photograph with several Wykle family members, that was taken around 1923/1924, at Allen Caperton Wikle's home, one of the brothers of Caroline. Also in the photo is John Henry Wykle, Frank Baker, Nannie Ellen Baker, Nora Clinton Wykle Carter Ward. As to the group photo event; that is unknown.

Possibilities on the event include:
It may have been taken after Caroline Sherwood funeral, or after Ruby Ferguson funeral, as there were several deaths within the family between 1920 and 1930.
It might have been taken for a birthday of either John Henry Wykle or Allen Caperton Wikle, brothers of Caroline Sherwood.

Gravesite Details

There is a Riverview Cemetery in Greenbrier County, near Roncerverte, as well as the Riverview Presbyterian Church Cemetery, above Lowell. It would seem that husband and wife would have been buried in the same cemetery.
