Charles Alder
Charles Henry Alder, 91, of Chester, died July 5 at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville.
Born Dec. 19, 1913, in Garrison in Baltimore County and the son of the late Charles Barrett Alder and Pauline Knott, Mr. Alder attended St. Charles Catholic School in Pikesville. He delivered newspapers for a long time and later worked as a machinist, fixing equipment for the longshoremen of the Port of Baltimore.
In 1936, he married Mary Atkinson, who died in January 1984. He married Elizabeth Dorrell in October 1984.
He was a member of the International Longshoremen's Association union, Bay Country Moose Lodge in Queenstown and St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Chester. He enjoyed golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Charles Thomas Alder of Cape St. Claire, Timothy Alder of Baltimore, Mark Alder of Easton and Charles H. Alder Jr. of Ridgely in Caroline County; two daughters, Pauline Coble of Pasadena and Jane Lanasa of Chester; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church.
