Abe met his second wife, Dora, in the woods while hiding from the Nazis. His first wife had been arrested and shot. Abe and Dora married and had their first son. Their second son was born in a displaced persons camp.

They left the camp and moved to San Francisco in 1952, then Philadelphia, then eventually Atlantic City, where Abe reportedly died of natural causes.
