Wasilla resident Allen F. Richie, 77, died May 11 at Crosswind Lake near Glennallen, while on a fishing trip. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Elks Lodge, with the lodge officers officiating.

Mr. Richie was born March 23, 1913, in Hope, N.J. He worked in Pennsylvania mines before coming to Alaska in 1948. Mr. Richie homesteaded in Sutton and worked as an electrician and miner at Jonesville. When the mine closed in 1956, he moved to Butte, Mont., where he worked as a car salesman. In 1960, Mr. Richie returned to Alaska to work for American Services as an expeditor. In 1964 he went to work for Craig Taylor Equipment, retiring in 1974 as parts manager. "After retiring, he returned to Pennsylvania due to illness in his wife's family, and returned to his beloved Alaska in 1986," said a family member. "He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors."

Mr. Richie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma, of Wasilla; his son, Lee, of Hazelton, Penn., his brothers, Herb Boyle, of Palmer, and Marvin Boyle, of Hazelton, Penn., his sister, Violet Van Cherire, of Harding, Penn.; his grandchildren, Deena, of Hazelton, and Amy and J.J. Mathews of Anchorage; his nephews, Herbert Jr. and Robert Boyle, of Wasilla, and Scott and Tim Boyle of Sutton; his nieces, Ingrid Shaganoff of Sutton, and Christine Eritz and Colleen Barickman of Wasilla; and several other nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania. Mr. Richie's family requests memorial donations be sent to the Alaska Lung Association, 605 Barrow St., Suite 2, Anchorage, 99501, or the Palmer Elks Lodge, Memorial Scholarship Fund, 209 W. Evergreen, Palmer, 99645. Arrangements were by Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Downtown.
