From a newspaper obituary:

While he died in a hospital in nearby Alexandria, he actually resided in Arlington, Va. on S. Wayne St. His children were listed as Janet, Inez, Mina, and Charles, Jr.

His wife was listed as Lottie Lydia Alvord.

That obituary also said he was a director of at least 2 divisions dealing with cotton within the U.S. Dept of Agriculture from which he joined in 1930 and retired from in 1946.

Charles Hulbert Alvord was born 16 Oct 1872 in Camden, Hillsdale, Michigan to Nathan Alonzo Alvord and Melinda Landon Alvord. On 28 Oct 1896 in Pittsford, Hillsdale, Michigan he married Charlotte Lydia Hicks. From this union were born Janet, Inez and Mina. Charles Hulbert Alvord, Jr was adopted by Charles and Charlotte.

Charles attended Michigan State University and earned his B.S. degree in Agriculture from Michigan Agricultural College in 1895 and his Master's degree in Agriculture in 1910. He taught at Texas A & M. In 1940 Charles was a educator for Department of Agriculture at Washington DC.
