Mae Wade Anderson died peacefully at her home on Friday, July 1, 2005.
Mae was born was the daughter of John C. and Lida Rogers Wade.
She is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
When Mae was three years old, she moved to St. Croix Falls, Wis. Mae was an outstanding student, skipped a grade and graduated from high school in 1932. She then moved to Madison, Wis., where she worked for the State Unemployment Compensation Dept., fell in love and married Carl L. Anderson on April 26.1941
During World War II, Mae joined Carl while he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in St. Augustine, Fla., New Orleans, La., and Pascagoula, Miss. After World War II, Mae lived in Batavia, Ill., where she served as president of the Batavia American Legion Auxiliary.
In August 1955, the family moved to New London, where Carl had accepted a vice-presidency with New London Mills. There, Mae continued to be an excellent wife and mother to her growing family. She was an assistant Girl Scout leader for Troop 174 and skillfully ran the house while Carl traveled extensively for business. After New London Mills closed, they formed Anderson Artesian Well Drilling, where Mae was an active partner in the success of that business. Mae was an avid bridge player, a gifted knitter, and had a lovely alto voice. Hers was a happy home for all.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children of Downers Grove, Ill; East Lyme, CT; and Sedgwick, Maine; as well as her grandchildren, of Avon, CT; Cincinnati, Ohio; Seattle, WA; and East Lyme, CT.
