Rev. Pohl was a retired Lutheran minister. He had previously been the Senior Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Trenton, MI. He was survived by his loving wife, Carol (nee Magenheim), they were married for 50 years. Also by his two sons, Geoffrey Allen (Tiffany), and Jonathan Wayne (Kim), and his grandchildren; Kelsea, Jake, Isaac, Zachary, Laney and Charlotte.

He grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was a graduate of Milwaukee Lutheran High School. He then graduated from Concordia College in 1960, and earned a B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1962, which is where he met his wife, Carol. After that he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary. They moved to Grand Rapids, where he started a new church, St. Mark Lutheran, in Kentwood, Michigan. It grew very rapidly. Their two sons were born during that time. After eight years, they moved to Trenton, MI, where he became the Administrative Pastor, until they retired to Green Valley, AZ. Among other things, he served as Contributing Editor of Leadership Journal, and co-authored "Mastering Church Finances". He liked the Green Bay Packers, the MSU Spartans, and his dog, Boomer. The Memorial Service was held at Desert Hills Lutheran Church, on November 15, 2014, and another in MI, on November 22, 2014. Published in the Green Valley News and Sun, on November 5, 2014.
