Robert Carleton died at the age of 93 at the Memory Haven. He spent his family summers as a youth in the family cabin in the Adirondacks, New York. He retired from the Navy as a helicopter pilot in 1963, after 21 years. He also had served on the USS Yorktown. He also trained others to fly helicopters. He was the 33rd Endorsed Helicopter Pilot in the Navy. His last held rank before retiring was a Lt. Commander. After the service he became a farmer in Washington, had an Orchard, and was a local Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He also served on the Board of Directors for many years with the Trout Fruit Co-Op. He was an active member with the Manson Kiwanis Club. He also owned a private plane. He grounded himself at age 86. They flew to Mexico, Alaska, Canada, Africa, Australia, Europe, Asia, and South America. He was preceded in death by his mother Ada Carleton, his father Guy Carleton, a sister Jean Hill, a brother Edward Carleton, a son Craig Timothy Carleton, a daughter Deborah Jean Rucky, and his wife of 56 years died in 2002, Mariruth (Hartquist) Carleton, known as "Harky." He was survived by: Robert Carleton Jr. of Manson, Washington, and two daughters, Teresa MacZuga of Bellingham, Washington, and Regina Albert of Puyallup, Washington. Also five grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
