On April 3, 1941, Walter was united in Holy Matrimony to Mamie M. Underwood Roy. From this union God blessed them with nine children: Cora Turner, Front Royal, Va., Russell Roy, Mitchellville, Md., Smith Roy, Sr., Michael Roy, Artelia Butler, all of Front Royal, Va., and Florence Williams, Suitland, Md. Three children: James W. Roy, Jr., Stanley Roy, and Dennis Roy, preceded him in death.
James Walter Roy, Sr., was fondly known by family and friends as Mr. Walter. He worked for a construction company for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Elks Lodge #486. Mr. Walter accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Flint Hill, Va. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He cared deeply for his family, He was often seen riding his bicycle or driving his personalized vehicle through town. He was also well known for being the only man ever to wrestle and knock out a live gorilla.
In addition to his devoted wife and children, he leaves to cherish his loving memory 26 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, two brothers, one sister and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
