Dawn was the fourth of six children and attended elementary school in Cedaredge, Colorado. In her early teens, Dawn became ill with what was later diagnosed as ulcerative colitis, so she went to live with her grandparents in Omaha, where she finished high school at Benson High. Dawn graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a degree in philosophy. Interested in issues of justice and the welfare of working people, Dawn worked as a union organizer and business agent for local 271 of United Food and Commercial Workers and later for American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. She married Lance Grothe in Omaha on March 19, 1988. They moved to Colorado in 1992 to be close to family, first Brighton, then Strasburg and finally Bennett. An active member of First Presbyterian Church of Aurora, and active in Presbyterian Women, PEO, and politics, she supported her sons in school and scouting activities. She was an active partner in her husband’s business. Survivors beside her husband were: sons Scott and Brendan Grothe; parents Chuck and Betty Worley of Cedaredge; brother Ross Worley, Durango; sister Susan Worley, Omaha, NE; brother Hank Worley, Colorado Springs; sister Faith Heckman, Stanchfield, MN; and brother, Tim Worley, Claremont, CA. Memorial Services held February 10 at First Presbyterian Church, 1585 Kingston St., Aurora. Memorial contributions made to First Presbyterian Church of Aurora, Christian Children’s Fund, or Western Colorado Congress.
