SALEM - Daniel Logan Withers, 65, passed away suddenly on Oct. 21, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Daniel was born on Sept. 27, 1949, in Salem, a son of the late Russel and Lucille (Logan) Withers.

As a youth, Daniel participated in many scholastic sports and was very active in 4-H. As a member of the Greenford Silver Spurs 4-H Club, he loved showing his horses and steers at the Canfield Fair.

Daniel graduated from Greenford High School in 1968. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ohio University and a Master’s Degree in Biology from Youngstown State University.

Daniel taught Comprehensive Science classes at Jackson Milton High School from 1972 to 2001. His Physics students enjoyed participating in the Physics Olympics Competition held at YSU. One of Daniel’s many passions was running, so coaching track and cross country for Jackson Milton High School students was a perfect fit. He also coached junior high football.

Daniel, an active farmer, loved the outdoors and nature. He was an active member of the Northeastern Ohio Forestry Association (NEOFA). He enjoyed traveling and especially, a most recent trip to the California Redwoods.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara J. (Sakely) Withers, whom he married on July 19, 1986; his brother, Charles (Susan) Withers of Greenford; three sisters, Eloise Beach of Franklin, Pa., Bonnie Weaver of Austintown, and Rebecca (William Rosenberg) Withers of Wallkill, N.Y.; a father-in-law, Edward Sakely, at home; a sister-in-law, Jane (Jack Chiles) Sakely of Houston; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by a sister, Suzanne Withers.

Daniel will live on through others as an organ donor.
