Horace L. Caldwell age 81, a veteran of the Civil War died at his home in Thebes, Il.

Services were held at the Thebes Baptist Church by Rev. H. C. Hoy pastor of Centenary Methodist Church of Cape Girardeau, Mo. The last rites at the grave were conducted by the Winifred Fairfax Warder Post of the American Legion of Cairo, Il.,

He was the only son of Marcus L. Caldwell who came to Missouri from North Carolina. He was united in marriage to Annie Sitton November 14, 1867. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by three sons, Homer of Bray, California, Ernest and Robert of McClure, Il., and four daughters, Mrs. Ada Chism, Mrs. Lou Allsup, and Mrs. Gertrude Patterson of Thebes and Mrs. Susie Vick of Delta, Il., and 35 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was baptized in the Methodist Church.

He was a member of Brown Culley Post No. 571, Dept. of Il., having served in Company A, Missouri Third Light Artillery during the Civil War.

Burial was in Thebes Cemetery.
