SAN MARCOS (Special) - Graveside services for Burl M. Abel, 90, of San Marcos will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Memory Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church under direction of Pennington Funeral Home.

He died Sunday, May 10, 1998.

He was born Feb. 4, 1908, in Marietta, Okla. He played basketball and received a degree from the University of Oklahoma. He was a teacher-coach in Walters, Okla. He married Chery Harris in 1935, in Walters. She died in 1994.

He operated a business college and he farmed in Anadarko, Okla. He taught school at the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Okla., and he moved to Seattle, Wash., where he was a professor at the University of Washington. He became the dean of Multnomah Junior College in Portland, Ore., and he moved to San Angelo to be dean at San Angelo College. He was a professor of business and finance at Texas Tech University for 30 years, retiring as professor emeritus. He received the CLU Designation at Tech. He was a Baptist deacon, and he taught Sunday school class for 60 years. He led the food program for the needy at First Baptist Church in Lubbock.

Survivors include a son, Michael of San Marcos; a daughter, Joan Timmons of Austin; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
