He married Winona Ruth Lowe Compton on June 30, 1947 at 1510 Washington Ave. Terre Haute, IN. He was born to Leonard Dalye Compton, Sr. and Nora Elouseise Smoot. He had three sisters Mary May Compton, Virginia Rose Compton , Coleene Compton and five brothers Elmer Jacob ( Jake ) Compton, Leonard Daley Compton, Jr., Lester Compton, Van Nelson ( Hunk ) Compton, Max Eldon Compton. His father died when Melvin was only 8 year old and him, some of his brothers had lived with other family members. His mother got remarried to a man named Ralph R Lovell, Sr. and they had two sons Farris L Lovell, Ralph Raymond Lovell. Melvin’s grandparents was Jacob ( Jack ) Harmon Compton, Mary Celina Roberts; Elmer Leonard Smoot, Cressy Jane Ash great-grandparents was William Thomas Compton, Emily Sarah Sarvice; Alonzo Smoot, Sarah Elizabeth Cotton 2 great-grandparents was Samuel Compton, Jr., Elizabeth May; John Smoot, Mary Jack 3 great-grandparents was Samuel Compton, Sr., Catheryn Buruer.
