Rachel Carpenter (Packard) Ashwanden, 100, formerly of 23 Adare Place, died Saturday at the Hampshire County Long Term Care Facility.
Born in Goshen March 5, 1889, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Abigail (Wakefield) Packard.
She attended the former Northampton Commercial College.
Mrs Ashwanden worked for 17 years as a private secretary at the former McCallum's Hosiery in Northampton.
She had also run a candy store in Springfield and a crafts store.
Mrs Ashwanden was a member of the Edwards Church in Northampton, and served as its treasurer from 1962 to 1975.
She was also a member of the Betty Allen Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, which she served as recording secretary, vice regent, and chairman of the war-bond drive.
She was also the treasurer at the Lathrop Home in Northampton for 15 years.
Her husband, Charles Ashwanden, died in 1962
She leaves five nieces and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the Edwards Church.
Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Spring Grove Cemetery, Florence.
Pease Funeral Home of Northampton is in charge of arrangements.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Edwards Church, Main Street, Northampton.
