Ramona T. Cormier

Ramona T. Cormier, 91, of Sulphur, LA, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in a local care facility.
Ramona was born on January 21, 1923 in Breaux Bridge, LA to Arthur and Florence Cormier.

She joined the U. S. Navy shortly after graduating from college in 1943. Her tour began July 31, 1943, after completion of basic training. She was transferred to many places from sea to sea. She retired years later as an ensign from the Navy first class. She thoroughly enjoyed serving her country in the Navy and was a proud veteran.

She was a world traveler and wine cynosure. She loved raising flowers and glass making. She was Trustee Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH. The Ramona T. Cormier Award, named in honor of her many years of teaching, is given annual to the outstanding senior philosophy major at BGSU. Additionally the university offers a Ramona Cormier Book Award and a quiet reading room at BGSU's Jerome Library is named for her.

She was the co editor with Ewing Chinn of _Encounter; an Introduction to Philosophy_ (1970), _Epistemology II (Tulane Studies in Philosophy)_ (1970), co-author with others of many editions of the _International Directory of Philosophy and Philosophers, co-author with Janis Pallister of _Waiting for Death: The Philosophical Significance of Beckett's En Attendant Godot_ (1977),
as well as articles in many other journals and books on philosophy, including one in a book about the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead.

She is survived by one sister, Lucille Darbone; nieces and nephews, David Trosclair, Peggy Langley, Donald Trosclair, Arthur Cormier III, Katherine Cormier, Theresa Cormier Wieclaw, and Melissa Ann Cormier Trahan; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents,one brother and her longtime partner, Dr. Janis Pallister.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2014 at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in Breaux Bridge, LA. Words of comfort may be expressed to the family at www.johnsonfuneralhome.net.
