Two retired railway mail clerks from Rock Island were killed Wednesday afternoon when a car in which they were riding ran off the road and struck a culvert near Columbus, Miss., while they were on the way home from a Florida vacation.
Albert Dickinson, 76, of 1702 32nd St., and Roscoe C. Garrett, 68, of 1515 37th St. were killed about 2 p.m. on highway 82 eight miles west of Columbus.
Guy Maxfield, also of Rock Island, was believed to have been driving the car. He and Glenn Winstrum, of Galesburg, were injured and hospitalized in Columbus.
Dickinson, a railway mail clerk for 36 years, retired 12 years ago and Garrett, who lived with a son, Harvey, retired in 1951 after having served as mail clerk 35 years.
Bodies of both men are being returned to Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

The Rev. Arthur T. Clark, pastor of South Park Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight.

Services for Mr. Dickinson have been tentatively set for 3 Saturday afternoon in Hodgson Funeral Home. The Rev. Arthur T. Clark, pastor of South Park Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tomorrow night.
Mr. Dickinson was born Aug. 28, 1881, in Osgood, Ia., a son of Zera and Rhoda Dickinson. He was reared and attended school in Emmetsburg, Ia. He was graduated from Grinnell College in 1904.
He married Margaret Nunn April 22, 1919, in Rock Island. He attended South Park church.
