Former Solon Dies at Beach

Allan A. Bynon, widely known Portland attorney and ex-state senator, died Saturday at his summer cottage at Agate Beach following a two months’ illness.

Mr. Bynon first stricken several days before his only son, Lt. Allan A. Bynon Jr., was killed in an automobile accident March 15, had gone to Agate Beach to recuperate. A heart attack was given as the cause of death.

A law partner of Gerald J. Meindl since 1942, Mr. Bynon’s Portland residence was at 11953 S.W. Riverside drive.

The former state legislator and assistant United States attorney was born in Portland on February 29, 1896. He attended the University of Oregon, where his daughter Ailsa is now a student, and received his law degree from Willamette university in 1917.

After serving overseas as a captain during World War I, Mr. Bynon returned to Portland and in 1922 was appointed assistant United States attorney for Oregon. He held that post until 1926.

Active in political affairs for many years, the Portland attorney served as state representative from 1928 to 1932 and as state senator from 1932 to 1936. He retired from politics in 1938 to devote full time to his law practice.

Mr. Bynon also was active in civic and veterans’ affairs. He was a former president of the Portland Americanization council and an untiring worker in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The widow, formerly Florence A. Hofer; his daughter, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bynon Sr. of Salem; two brothers, Fred Jr. and George, both of Salem; and three sisters, Mrs. Edith Low, Brookings, Mrs. Marcella VonGortler, Seattle, and Mrs. Lois Stewart, Klamath Falls, survive.

Funeral services will be held at J. P. Finley and Son mortuary at 3:30 P.M. Monday, with burial in Riverview cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Raymond Staub, Burton, Wilson, Arlyn Cole, Kern Crandall, Hanover Deady and Dr. Chester Downs.
