EDWARD ADAM HARTER was the son of William and Mary Rudisell Harter of Monroe Township, Richland County, Ohio. The Harter farm was located on Swigart Road, near Hastings.

Adam was united in marriage with Miss Emma "Emily" Rummel on August 15, 1869. They were the parents of four known children-

Estella Harter Daugherty 1870-1941
Viola Harter Donough 1871-1946
Nannie Harter Bemiller 1873-1947
Benjamin Franklin Harter 1876-1953

Adam's wife, Emily, age 53, died July 31, 1898 in Shelby, Ohio. Her cause of death was typhoid fever. She was buried at the Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Adam was married a second time to Sarah Ann May Hornberger on July 9, 1899 in Richland County. Sarah Ann May was previously married to Samuel Hornberger, he passed away 1897 leaving her a widow, Sarah and Samuel were the parents of four known children.

Charlie W. Hornberger 1873-1873
Elizabeth C. "Libbie" Hornberger 1875-1877
Wilda M. Hornberger 1877-1966
Samuel Elmer Hornberger 1880-1955

Adam and Sarah lived in Shelby and around 1930 they resided on Reed Street in Mansfield in Richland County, Ohio. Adam was a "house plasterer" by trade. He was very proud to have an almanac dating back to 1845, the year he was born. His father William (of German descent) came from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1839 and settled on 80 acres of land in Monroe Township (Swigart Road) and erected a two-story log cabin. William and Mary Rudisell raised a very large family, they were the parents of 16 children. Mary died on July 21, 1948 after giving birth to her daughter Mary E. Harter Fulton (my husband's great-grandmother). Mary Rudisell Harter was buried at the Mt. Olive Cemetery at the end of Tucker Road in Monroe Township.

Adam died on July 6, 1931 and was buried at the Shelby Oakland Cemetery. Sarah Ann lived several years after Adam's death and died on March 1, 1932 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. She was also buried at the Shelby Oakland Cemetery.

May they rest in peace.
