Arthur John Palliser, the son of Benjamin D. and Mary (Anderson) Palliser, was born on 2 August 1890 in Launceston. He was a motor mechanic when he joined the Divisional Supply Column on 18 September 1914. He served with the First Divisional Ammunition Column of the Australian Army Service Corps before he transferred to the Australian Flying Corps. Posted to 4 Squadron, he flamed one balloon and downed a Fokker D.VII flying the Sopwith Camel before his squadron was re-equipped with Sopwith Snipes in October 1918. Flying a Snipe, Lieutenant Palliser downed five more Fokker D.VIIs before he was killed in action on 4 November 1918. His headstone and cemetery records both indicate he died on 5 November 1918.
