Idella Tong was born Aug. 12, 1907, in Portland. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon and a master's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. She was a private piano teacher in Highland Park, N.J., before moving in 1999 to Mobile, Ala. She volunteered for the American Red Cross in Baltimore. In 1931, she married Bacon F.; he died in 1973.
Survivors include her son, Bryant; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her daughter Jean C. Wong died in about 1984.
