George was the son of Henry Smith and Mary Quigley.

According to a letter written by George Smith's son, Jack, the family moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1872 or 1873 where Henry died about 1885 or 1886. After his father's death, George went to live with his mother's sister, George's Aunt Mary (aka "Sadie"), in Philadelphia. Sadie had 15 children of her own.. George's brother, Charles Elijah, was raised by Laton and Rachel Francina Curtis, and Charles took their last name of Curtis. Charles is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, KS (Find A Grave Memorial# 104165183)

Gravesite Details

Buried in the "Town Lot" section used for the poor, destitute, transients, etc. Nearly all the graves here are unmarked and specific locations unrecorded. The section has only 6 markers (including the boulder), none are for George.
