WILL OF GILES ALLEGRE
(1817)

Know all men by these presents that I Giles Allègre of Albemarle County for an in consideration of the love, regard and affection which I have for Polly, wife of my natural and adopted son David A. Reynolds, and for an in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me, in hand, paid by the aforesaid, David A. Reynolds, have given granted and sold unto the said, Polly Reynolds, her heirs and assigns the following property (Court) Franky, a negress, and her two children, Louisa and Jane, a negro man named Ben, husband to Franky, Rachel, a negress and her male child. These negroes have been in the proession of my natural and adopted son David A. Reynolds, for and during, the time of eight or ten years, although I have occasionally, hired them out at his request for my own benefit and I do hereby warrant and defend a good and perfect right unto the said Polly Reynolds in the said negroes against the claim of all persons whatsoever except her husband during his life. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of May one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.
