She was born on October 26, 1922, in Davison County, South Dakota, the daughter of Joseph and Laura (Giese) Erickson. Her family moved to the Madison area in 1925 where she graduated as valedictorian from Orland Consolidated High School in 1939.

She attended Nettleton College and then worked at Rigg's Optical in Sioux Falls for two years starting in 1940. She also worked at the Army Air Force Technical Training Base in Sioux Falls before moving in 1944 to Long Beach, California where she worked at the Navy Hospital and the Veteran's Hospital. She transferred to the Veterans Administration Center when she returned to Sioux Falls in 1954, where she was the secretary to the Assistant Director.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother and greatly enjoyed attending the many activities of her children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, Laura J. Donohue (Dan) and Daniel Goeman (Shelli) both of Sioux Falls, six loving grandchildren who adored her, Erin S.
