Mr. Briggs was an artist, attorney, a deeply spiritual man, father to five beautiful children, and friend to many. He was born in Galveston, Texas to Eva Ruth Briggs and Archie Briggs, Sr., and relocated with his mother and younger brother, Ivory Briggs, to San Francisco’s Chinatown as a child during the Great Depression.
During his life, Archie participated in civil rights demonstrations, represented Huey P. Newton (and briefly represented an infamous San Francisco-based group known as Synanon), served as Assistant District Attorney, and dated a young Etta James. We will miss his charm, his depth, his unique way of looking at and asking about the world, his mentorship and his very generous spirit.
Archie Briggs is survived by his children: Zena, Morgan, Steven, Kenya and Ivan; his younger siblings: David, Donald and Deborah; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
