Carolyn Rowlett Bowen, 83, widow of William Augustus Bowen, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at her residence.
Mrs. Bowen was born May 14, 1931, in Greenville, NC, a daughter of the late Clinton Boyd Rowlett, Sr., and Hilda Carolyn Critcher Rowlett.
She lived mainly in North Carolina and Tulsa, Oklahoma, before moving to Georgetown. She was active in community and church affairs and volunteered to serve on many committees in Charlotte and Tulsa. She was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church and served on the church Altar Guild. She was an avid bridge player. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She was survived by a son, William A. (Beth) Bowen, Jr., of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Carol Bowen (Alan Bernstein) of New York City, NY; Lee Bowen (Dr. Lee) Jones of Pawleys Island; and Jane Bowen (Tim) Sullivan of Park City, UT; eight grandchildren, Tripp (Hannah) Jones, Anne Jones (Douglas) Marion, Benjamin Bernstein, Lindsay and Thomas Sullivan, and Casey, Gus, and Andrew Bowen; and a great-grandson, Maxwell Jones.
Memorial services were 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014, in Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. The Very Rev. Paul C. Fuener officiated. Inurnment followed in Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church Columbarium.
Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
