Estle Miller Bake, 83, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt, Kansas. He was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Cross Timbers, Missouri, the son of Simmie and Iva (Miller) Bake. He grew up in Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Aug. 18, 1949, he married Mary Terrell in rural Yates Center, Kansas. She survives. He worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad, and for the M.E.C. Company of Neodesha, KS, building mills across the U.S.A. He was a member of the American Legion in Chanute, KS. Other survivors include a step-daughter, Kathryn Cox, of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Noel Bake; and a sister, Naomi Wright. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola, KS. Burial was in Askren Cemetery, rural Yates Center, Kansas.
