He enlisted on Aug 13, 1940 in Moncton, New Brunswick and went overseas on Jun 29, 1941.

James was a crew member on Halifax W1113, LQ-G which was shot down by Oblt Rudolf Sigmund, a German Luftwaffe night fighter ace.
