FITCHBURG - Anthony "Tony" Cicala, 76, of 6 Cliff St. died Saturday in Burbank Hospital after a brief illness.
He leaves five sisters, Palma Maggio, Josephine R. and Mary C. Cicala, Rose C. Renda and Jenny T. Haggerty, all of Fitchburg; nephews and nieces. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Giuseppe and Vincenza (Di Salvo) Cicala, and lived here most of his life.
Mr. Cicala was a machinist at General Electric Co. for 10 years, retiring in 1978. He was previously a manager at the former Williams Brothers Concessions, where he worked for 50 years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 320th Bomb Group in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater.
Mr. Cicala was a life member of St. Anthony de Padua Church. He was a member of Fitchburg Lodge of Elks, the Fitchburg Senior Center, its Booster Club and its Retired Men's Club.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Smith-Mallahy Funeral Home, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Anthony de Padua Church, 84 Salem St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions made to the Renovation Fund of St. Anthony de Padua Church, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg, 01420; or may be left at the funeral home.
