Roy Lynn Cornwell, age 78 of the Springville community in North Tazewell, VA died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Welmont Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN. Born April 19, 1936 at Tazewell, VA, he was a son of the late Rufus and Virgie Mathews Cornwell. He retired from Consolidation Coal Company after 35 years, and was a member of the UMWA Local # 6025. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Theresa Cornwell; brother, Rufus Cornwell, Jr. and infant brother, Robert Cornwell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy Smith Cornwell; two daughters, Donna Cornwell of Baptist Valley, VA and Dena White and husband, Jim of Peoria, AZ; one brother, James Cornwell and wife, Betty of Bluefield, VA; one sister, Edna McNew of Falls Mills, VA and sister in law, Mildred Cornwell of Cedar Bluff, VA; three grandchildren, Aaron Pena of Peoria, AZ, Jhun Benhayoune and husband, Mounir of Las Vegas, NV, Maria Granquist and husband, Rich of Bloomingdale, IN; six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Reverend Jimmy Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Stanley Cox, David Ritter, Wayne Dick, George Selix, Randy Cornwell, and Max Simmons. Ed Thomas will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Tuesday, November 4, 2014.
