"A PIONEER
Jacob Luscher, junior, was born in Switzerland, Argo county, October 17, 1844, and died October 19, 1925, aged 81 years and two days. In 1854 he came with his parents to America, and landed at Cleveland, Ohio, where they lived four years. In 1858 they moved to Ionia, and in 1860 they moved to Sebewa, where he lived until 1906; then to Ionia, where he lived until his death. He was a successful farmer in Sebewa, and owned a beautiful farm home of 120 acres, of which he cleared, where he lived 42 years. June 12, 1873, he was married to Minnie Erdman. To this union were born eight children, Erma, Emma, Ada, Norah, Walter, Home, Edna and John. January 1, 1893, their mother died. She requested him to find another Christian mother soon, which he did, and she endeavored to care for them in the best possible way until they were brown up. In 1891 he was converted on his bar floor in answer to the prayers of the M. E. people during a revival held by Rev. Spencer. He joined the M. E. church at Sebewa Center. He has been a faithful member and active worker in the church ever since. He was a trustee 15 years in Sebewa, and steward nearly 10 years in Ionia in the M. E. church, and trustee of the I. H. A. Mission 10 years. He was a kind husband and a patient father. Our loss is his gain. We have a glorious hope of meeting him in glory, where parting will be no more. There was a large attendance at the funeral, held from the M. E. church October 22. Rev. Kendrick officiated, assisted by Rev. Charles Hayward, his former M. E. pastor, now of Saranac, and Rev. John Young, of the I. H. A. Mission of this city. The daughter, Mrs. Lon Sandborn, is in feeble health, and could not attend the funeral, nor could her two sons in the West. Mrs. Ada Johnson and family, in the West, were unable to attend.
He leaves a widow, five daughters and their families to mourn their loss, also many other relatives and friends. The three sons have gone on before; Walter at the age of about 2 1/2 years, Homer 21, and John 28.
We pray and believe there will be an unbroken family in heaven at last.
A beautiful burial service at the Sebewa Corners cemetery, where he was laid to rest in the family lot.
After the toils and sorrows of life; After the storm, the sunshine; After the tears, the calm sweet rest; Resting in God's blest keeping, So in this life, our brother dear, Husband, father, and friend so near, Has gone to receive his just reward Where there's joy and love without a fear. Shall we miss him? O, yes, we'll miss him, But will not mourn nor sorrow. For God has called him, He knows what's best, For only just a little while, until that glad tomorrow."
