In the 1865 New York State Census the Cool family was listed as Truman J 33 b Montgomery Co, NY, wife Sarah A 27, and 6 children being Lorenzo 10, Clarissa A 8, Addie E 5, Effie 4, Hattie E 2 1/12, and Susan V 5/12, all Jefferson Co, NY ( New York, State Census, 1865 [database on-line]. Truman J Cool was a cobbler at French Creek (now Clayton NY). A ship loaded with grain sank and he went to help unload it. He developed pneumonia, died, leaving Sarah & kids. Her parents took them in, raised the children, all of whom went west with the oldest, Lorenzo, and his wife. Some later returned to Jefferson County. Truman had 7 siblings: Arthur, Harriette, James L, Alomzo Eliza, Walter, and Daniel; they and their children married surnames of Franke Wescott, Gailey, Butts, Rogers, Hale, Charlebois, and Combs.

He is buried in the back right corner of Fox Creek Cemetery, Point Peninsula, Town of Lyme, Jefferson County, New York. and waseventually interred in the back right corner (from the road) of the Fox Creek cemetery along with their daughter, Effie, beneath a tall, slim, blue-grey headstone.
