She was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Linton to Kenneth and Elva (Beasley) Hattery.
Betty was a graduate of Linton High School and the nursing school at IU Medical Center Marion County General Hospital in Indianapolis.
On Aug. 13, 1948, she married Robert M. Abel at Martinsville Methodist Church.
Dr. and Mrs. Abel moved to Wakarusa in 1951. Betty was a homemaker. She loved her family and especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Abel is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Abel; daughter Nancy (Tom) Roeder of Wakarusa; sons Robert Abel II of Wakarusa, Randy (Jane) Abel of Wakarusa and Michael (Linda) Abel of North Platt, Neb.; grandchildren Andrew (Billie) Roeder, Charlie (Kristin) Roeder, Molly (Dave) Wilson, Samantha Abel, Spencer Abel, Tyler (Jackie) Abel and Lacy Abel; and great-grandchildren Owen, Anna, Olive and Pia Roeder, Jesse, Miriam and Hudson Wilson and Taytem Abel.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosemary Corbin and Janet Weaver, and a brother, Bill Hattery.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home in Wakarusa. There will be a private family service.
Memorial contributions may be given to The Betty Abel Memorial for Wakarusa Softball and Little League.
