DONALD EBENEZER HONEYMAN
September 24, 1924 ~ October 8, 2014

"Don had a terrific sense of humor and a remarkable memory that stayed with him to the end."

Donald Ebenezer Honeyman died October 8, 2014, in Vancouver, Washington. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends. Don was born to Arthur Ebenezer Honeyman and Josephine (Overby) Honeyman September 24, 1924, in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He spent his boyhood in Breckenridge, Michigan.

Don joined the Navy immediately after graduation from high school, and served in both the Pacific and European campaigns during World War II. He joined the Marines during the Korean War and was assigned as a Forward Observer for the artillery. He fought at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.

After being discharged from the Marines, Don met and married Elizabeth Ryan. They moved to Oregon, where their two children, Bruce and Jane, were born, then to Everett, Washington, where Don lived until 1972 while Bruce and Jane were raised. Don and Betty divorced after 21 years of marriage.

Don loved painting, woodcarving and bird watching and was a voracious reader. He also was a champion trap shooter. Don instilled a life-long love of the environment, animals, the beauty of nature, and dogs in his children.

After the divorce, Don moved to the Vancouver area where he reconnected with old friends and made many new ones. He was active in the American Legion, and the VFW, where he was Post Commander in 1990-1991. Don supported the Southwest Indian Foundation for many years. He loved watching baseball, painting shows and old movies on TV, and, while living at Vintage at Vancouver, played pool, poker and other card games with his buddies.

Don leaves behind his son, Dr. Bruce Honeyman (Dr. Joyce Schroeder); grandson, Alexander Honeyman; his daughter, Dr. Jane Honeyman (Ronald Fishback); several cousins; special friends, Joyce Mayfield and Gwen Johnson; as well as his beloved dog, Sarge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.

A funeral service was held November 7, 2014 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 5607 NE Gher Rd., Vancouver, Washington, with Internment at National Willamette Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
