Elaine Borland was perhaps the kindest woman I ever knew. She befriended me when I was in junior high school, and I stopped in her television and record shop a couple of days a week when walking home from school. We talked for hours and hours, for year after year. We covered every subject under the sun.

Elaine married her high school sweetheart, Edward Borland, after his hitch in Japan while he was in the service. After high school, she worked at the Brody (Sycamore) Coat Factory in DeKalb, IL. She loved to sew.

Edward and Elaine had two children, Ross and Patricia. They were married for about sixty years. I used to love to watch Edward watch Elaine -- I have never seen two people so much in love in my life. She was kind, sweet, good-natured, a good mother, a good daughter, a beloved wife, and one of my best friends, and friends with many others. I will miss her.
