She was a gifted soloist with a voice of a hummingbird. She was a Deaconess of various churches, including St. Jude Missionary Baptist Church (Fayetteville, NC). She was also a Church Mother of Freedom World Outreach.

She was also a member of social organizations, namely, Unity Grand Chapel Order of the Eastern Star PHA (Prince Hall Affiliated) of Wisconsin, the Order of the Golden Circle, and Zembo Temple DT Isis.

Ma Pearl was also a private duty nurse's assistant.
