Richard Beckett or Uncle Dick, was a special man to my father H. Lester Shimpfky. My brother was named after him. I researched him when I started family history. He was a cousin or a brother of my g-grandmother Anna Beckett Shimpfky. I wish I knew! Although his job as City of Denver employee wasn't glamorous, he had great work ethics. He worked hard and saved his money. He was a very good provider for his family. He loved this country and did his civic duty to the USA by completing his US Census every 10 years! He must have known what it would mean to future generations, like me!

R.D. Beckett, 84, a resident of Denver fifty-five years and an employe of the city thirty-five years, died Saturday at his home at 411 East Mexico avenue of heart disease which had confined him to bed fo two weeks.
Mr. Beckett was a native of Belfast, Ireland, who came to the United States when 20 years old. He had been retired for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annabella Beckett, and two daughters, Mrs. S.M. Black of Kane, Pa., and Mrs. Andrew Horan of Salt Lake City.
Six members of one family have been singing in a cathedral choir in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Born in Belfast, Ireland, Oct 31, 1857, he came to the United States as a youth. He lived in Chicago before coming to Denver in 1887. A city employee for more than 30 years, he was superintendent of road equipment for a greater part of the time, retiring three years ago.
His wife, Mrs Annabelle Beckett, whom he married 44 years ago, survives.
He was one of the oldest Colorado members of the Royal Arch Masons, The Woodmen of the World and the Presbyterian Church.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. S. M. Black of Kane, PA. and Mrs. Andrew Horan of Salt Lake City, and three grandchildren.
