William A. Klingerman was a son of Samuel Edward Klingerman (1883-1947) and Bridget McCloskey (1887-1960).

He graduated from St. Gabriel's High School in 1940 where he was a football star. He entered military service 18 Jan 1942.

He was reported missing in action in Africa as of 30 Apr 1943, and was a member of the famous 16th Infantry which took part in the invasion of North Africa.

His parents later received notification from the War Department that he was dead. In 1944, they received the Purple Heart medal posthumously for their son.

In May 1949, his remains were returned to the United States aboard the U.S. Army Transport John L. McLarly.

He was originally interred in a temporary military cemetery in North Africa.
