Elizabeth was born to Harry Heins and Annie Sexton at St. Francis Hospital, Bronx, NY. She was raised by her maternal Aunt Margaret Elizabeth Schell (nee Sexton) due to her mother's untimely passing when she was eleven months old. She was a model in the 1960s and attended the Blessed Sacrament School. Elizabeth went by the nickname Betty. She graduated in 1975 from Preston High School and worked at Westchester Square Hospital, and as a bank teller at Knickerbocker Savings. Betty was in Love with music of all kinds and played the guitar and harmonica. Music ran in her family. Her mother and grandmother both sang and played piano, her uncles played Instruments as well. She listened to records over tea with them all the time! Betty married Patrick Amendolare in 1977 at Santa Maria Roman Catholic Church on Christmas Day. She raised two children, Joseph Patrick and AnneMarie in the Bronx, NYC until their "escape" to her dream life in Hawai'i. In 1993 she took a job as a teller at Bank of Hawaii. She took several other part time jobs simultaneously including U. S. Postal mail handler, presort envelope service clerk and house/pet sitter to make ends meet and keep her dream of living in paradise alive. All this while still finding time to foster and spay/neuter homeless and feral cats and help at the Honolulu ASPCA. Betty was fortunate to eventually take a job she would love and stay with till the end of her time, as a park ranger at the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve on O'ahu. She spent years keeping the native wildlife of the islands safe, happy, and the human visitors well informed. She was a proud mother, grandmother, humanitarian. A wonderful soul and selfless friend. Betty Heins was laid to rest by her son Joseph A. of San Diego and her daughter Annemarie T. of Honolulu. Her ashes scattered into Hanauma Bay in the Pacific Ocean on January 11, 2011. Survived by her Son and Daughter, son and daughter- in- laws, 3 grand daughters, 2 grandsons, 2 sisters, 3 nephews and a neice and countless great friends. Betty Heins will forever be in our hearts and the sun that shines through our souls.
