Irene A. Sassenrath passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at a care home. She was born in 1917 in Alberta, Canada to Thomas Gray and Laura Boisjolie-Gray. She was one of seven children.

The family moved to Meridian, Idaho in 1919, where they farmed.

Irene left home in 1932 for St. Lois, MO, where she eventually married Harry Stubblefield. After his death she married Will Sassenrath.

After recovering from a stroke following Wills death, she returned to Boise to be close to her family.

Prior to her stroke, Irene worked hard running a tavern and a hardware store, she and her first husband owned. She also drove a school bus for years and eventually retired.

She was an Eastern Star member, enjoyed sewing, embroidering, cross stitching and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her mother Laura M. Gray, father Thomas Gray, sisters Viola Shirk/Lockwood, and Irva Kendall, brothers Bob Gray, Ray Gray and Ernie Gray.

She is survived by her sister Joyce (Yribar) George of Salem, OR, nieces Jean Zoberski (Michael), Rita Nabonne (Oliver) of Bakerfield, CA and Helen Triguillas of Washington, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 8, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, across Glenwood from Hawks Stadium in Ashland Business Park.

Private graveside services will be held at Cloverdale Cemetery, Boise.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Idaho Human Society or XL Hospice, care of Bowman Funeral Parlor, 5525 N. Glenwood St., Garden City, ID 83714.
