Obituary as follows:
"Newman Duncan died September 16, 1897 at his home south of Catawissa. The deceased was an old soldier and pensioner. He was a member of the 26th Missouri Infantry. The funeral services were held at the cemetery and were conducted by Rev. B.F. January of Pacific. Several old soldiers were present and joined in the funeral obsequies. The deceased left a wife and three daughters who mourn their loss of husband and father.”
He married Mrs. Mary E. McCourtney on December 20 1855, known children as follows: William Duncan 1856-1883, Mary Frances Fitzwater 1857-1937, Martha Susan Patton 1859-1926, Ella J. "Belle" Fitzwater 1861-1880 and Infant Duncan.
