HILLYER. Lawrence "Lop" Halstead Hillyer, 85, of 35 Bayview Ave., Crescent Beach, Niantic, husband of Alice (Axelby) Hillyer, died Tuesday (May 17) in New London. He was born Sept. 10, 1902, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Nathaniel and Aida (Frere) Hillyer, and had been a resident of Niantic since 1913. He was owner and operator of the former Hillyer Bath House, Crescent Beach, Niantic. Besides his wife, Mr. Hillyer is survived by a son, Lawrence H. Hillyer Jr. of Irvine, Calif.; a daughter, Judith E. Aldrich of Niantic; two brothers, Nathaniel Hillyer in Ohio and Ira Hillyer of Niantic; four grandchildren; several several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Thursday (May 19), 11 a.m., in the East Lyme Funeral Home of Alderson-Prentis, Alderson-Prentis, Alderson-Prentis, Lake Avenue, Niantic. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Niantic. Niantic. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
