Private family services will be held for Hazel M. Pentzer, 93, of Chico Friday at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Entombment will follow next to her husband at Chico Memorial Mausoleum. She died Sunday December 25, 2005 in Chico.
Hazel was born September 26, 1912 in Hoquiam, Washington to Merle and Myrtle Budd. She grew up in Newberg, Oregon, and in 1934 she married Donald John Pentzer. The couple and their only child, Robert, lived in Corvallis, Salem, and The Dalles, Oregon; Puyallup, Washington; Weslaco, Texas; Yuba City and Campbell, California. Donald retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture food inspection services based in San Jose, and the couple moved to Avery, CA in 1972.
In 1978 they settled in Chico, and in 1979 Donald died.
Hazel is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Kathleen, of Chico; granddaughters, Kelly Lynn Beckman and Erica Fahy of Chico; grandson, Scott Pentzer of San Jose, Costa Rica; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Thelma Womelsdorf of Vancouver, Washington and many nieces and nephews.
The family is extremely grateful for Hazel's care for nearly three years by the very skilled and charismatic management and staff of Roses and Ivy Elder Care facility in Chico.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
