Mass for William P. Burke Sr., 81, father of former Mayor Jane Byrne and a retired steel company executive, will be said at noon Thursday in Queen of All Saints Basilica, 6280 N. Sauganash Ave.
Mr. Burke, who had been ill for several years, was found unconscious by a housekeeper early Tuesday in his Sauganash home and was pronounced dead in Swedish Covenant Hospital.
Mr. Burke worked 28 years for the Inland Steel Co., where he became an executive vice president. He then co-owned Gordon-Burke Steel Inc., a warehousing business, until his retirement several years ago.
Besides Byrne, survivors include 2 sons, William Jr. and Edward J.; 3 daughters, Carol Sexton, Donna Fitzpatrick and Mary Jill Wolfe; and 33 grandchildren.
