USAF Lt. Col. (Ret.) Thomas H. Nagel, age 84 of Fairborn, passed away Saturday September 30, 2023. He was born August 22, 1939 in St. Marys, Ohio, the son of the late Herbert and Helen (Thilker) Nagel.

Tom was a graduate of Sinclair College (A.S.), University of Toledo (B.S., Cum Laude, M.B.A.) and the Air War College. Tom served his country in the Air National Guard, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also served in civil service in equipment management until retirement.

Trinity United Church of Christ in Fairborn was Tom's church home and he served as a council member and endowment fund trustee and valued the bonds and friendships he made there over the years.

Active in freemasonry, Tom was the past Secretary and Past Master of Mystic Lodge #405, F. & A.M. and he was he Past Executive Director of the Dayton Masonic Temple Association. He was awarded the Grand Master's "Greatness Through Service" Award from the Grand Lodge of Ohio. He was also a member of American Legion Dignam-Whitmore Post 526 and was a proud Kentucky Colonel.

Tom served the citizens of Fairborn in many capacities over the years as a member of many committees and boards as well as at the county and regional level. He served on City Council starting in 1999, was elected to serve as the Mayor in 2003 and was re-elected in 2005 for a second term. He also served the community in additional capacities as a member of the Sinclair Foundation Board of Trustees and as a Past Trustee of the Ohio National Guard Association.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Nagel in 1995; second wife, Betty Sharon Nagel in 2020; a son, Robert Nagel; stepson, Mark Hall; and two brothers, Terry and Jack Nagel. Survivors include his son, Stanley (Nancy) Nagel of Dubin, OH; stepchildren, Dennis (Angela) Hall of Springboro, Shellie (Kevin) Doyle of Fairfield, OH; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday October 5, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral service will be held on Friday October 6, 2023 at 10:30 A.M., Pastor Gene Cline officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, One Children's Plaza -2 West, Dayton, OH. 45404.
