After the land went to the government for the National Park my Great Grandfather James Alex Brown worked to build roads, etc. They were allowed to live there until the park was finished.

Son of Alexander William Brown (b. 1810 and died 15 Jul 1872 in Tennessee) and Rachel Austin (b. 1815 and died 25 Nov 1886 in Tennessee).

There is a misconception about daughter Mary. Her name was Mary Ellen Brown, born 1868 in Arkansas. She never married Mr Strawn. She first married Houston Devers in Wayne Co. He died young but they had one son, Arthur Houston who died in 1967.
She married second Bedford Forrest Flannagan in July 1888 in Hardin Co. They had about 7 children together. Believe she died in Corinth in 1922. No headstone.
Proof from census, marriage records, funeral home records and death certificates.
