Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War as a 1st Sergeant in the 33rd illinous Volunteer Infantry, as a Captain and Acting Assistant Adjutant General on the staffs of Colonel John M. Loomis and Brigadier General William Harrow, and as Colonel and commander of the 26th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious service during the war".
