Charlotte E. Sutton of Chestertown, Maryland died on November 11, 2014 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown. She was 79.
She was born in Chestertown on December 23, 1934 the daughter of the late Elmer Earl and Elizabeth Jarvis Coleman. She was a graduate of Sudlersville High School where she was an acclaimed basketball player.
In 1952 she married Irvin A. Sutton; they were married for 27 years. Mrs. Sutton raised her family in the Chestertown area; she also worked with the Defense Plant at the time of the historic explosion. Mrs. Sutton later drove a school bus for Mr. Harry Willis and Mr. Tank Crouch.
She was a member of Chestertown Sorority, Christ United Methodist Church, Kent County Homemakers, and the Chester River Yacht and Country Club. She loved to dance, sew, cook, and flower garden.
She is survived by her sons: Jeffrey Sutton of Chestertown, MD, Gregory Sutton of Spencer, WV, and Douglas Sutton of Columbus, Ohio, a brother Kenny Coleman of New Jersey, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-sisters, Carolyn, Sara, and Virginia Lee.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown where relatives and friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Sudlersville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church P.O. Box 262 Chestertown, Maryland 21620.
